Sales and marketing software is entering a new phase in 2026 as customer relationship management platforms shift from recommending actions to carrying them out on their own. The change centers on agentic artificial intelligence, systems that can execute multi step workflows such as researching a lead, drafting outreach, updating records, and scheduling follow ups without a human triggering each move.
Salesforce has emerged as a leading example with its Agentforce platform, which the company says has reached 18,500 customers and now handles more than 3 billion workflows each month. The agents draw on unified customer data, pulling together website behavior, email engagement, purchase history, and support interactions into a single profile that connected tools can act on.
HubSpot has expanded aggressively in the same direction with its Breeze lineup, offering more than 20 agents spread across its marketing, sales, and service products, including its free customer relationship management tier. The breadth signals that autonomous features are moving downmarket rather than remaining an enterprise only capability.
Analysts note that the gap in raw AI capability between major platforms has narrowed considerably. The distinction now rests on the depth of specific use cases and the quality of the underlying data rather than whether a given feature exists. For sales teams, the practical question is shifting from whether to adopt AI agents toward how much decision making to delegate to them and how to keep human oversight in the loop.
