Atlanta insurance technology company Axle has closed a $17.5 million Series A round led by Base10 Partners, with participation from Y Combinator, Gradient Ventures, Stage2 Capital, and several industry angel investors including Cover Genius co-founder Chris Bayley. The company plans to double its 25-person headcount by the end of the year and grow its Atlanta office alongside engineering and go-to-market hiring.

Axle was founded by Emory University Goizueta Business School graduates Cameron Duncan, Armaan Sikand, and Nihar Parikh. The three started with the idea of building a universal insurance API, comparable to what Plaid built for banking data. Duncan told Hypepotamus that insurance lacks a common ledger and standardized data, which forces companies to work across separate policy systems. That gap pushed the team toward positioning Axle as an AI clearinghouse for insurance, offering instant policy verification, ongoing monitoring, policy evaluation, and supporting infrastructure that the company says reduces cost and risk for its customers.

The company now serves more than 4,000 businesses, including Rocket Mortgage, Avis, and Experian, and says it clears more than $100 billion in coverage each year. After proving the model in five markets, Axle intends to expand into more than 50 segments spanning home, mortgage lending, auto, renters, dealerships, employee compliance, commercial, and specialty insurance.

Axle has also released Passport, a product that stores insurance account details so verification repeats quickly across devices. The founders said they opened the raise and received multiple term sheets within the first two weeks. The team maintains close ties to Emory and has hired several graduates from the school.
