Enterprises deploying AI across core business functions are reporting productivity improvements in the 10% to 30% range for targeted workflows, according to McKinsey's QuantumBlack AI practice research published in 2026. The largest gains have been documented in software development, data processing, customer interaction, and content production workflows.
Total spending on AI software, services, and infrastructure in the United States is projected to exceed $200 billion in 2026 as cloud providers, enterprise software vendors, and consulting firms expand AI-enabled offerings. Generative AI tools now account for a growing share of that spend, moving from experimentation budgets into core IT and operations line items.
The McKinsey research also notes a widening performance gap between organizations that have integrated AI into decision-making workflows and those that have not. Companies in the top quartile of AI adoption are reporting measurable cost reductions and faster time-to-market on product and service development.
Among the sectors showing the highest AI implementation rates in 2026 are financial services, healthcare, retail, and professional services. Manufacturing and logistics are also accelerating deployment, particularly for predictive maintenance, demand forecasting, and supply chain optimization applications.
