Georgia Tech and Emory University have together committed more than $1.175 billion to artificial intelligence, according to Hoodline reporting dated October 14, 2026.

Georgia Tech's share is more than $575 million across advanced computing, AI discovery and workforce development. Emory's is roughly $600 million, with nearly half directed toward recruiting and retaining talent.

A centerpiece is the Nexus supercomputer, rated at 400 petaflops and built with a $20 million National Science Foundation grant. It is housed in the Coda data center in Tech Square, and at least 90 percent of its capacity is allocated to researchers nationally. An automated cloud lab received an $18 million NSF grant in August.

Georgia Tech's AI.Humanity initiative involves more than 250 faculty across eight schools and colleges, and its AI Makerspace serves more than 6,000 students a year. The AI.Health institute has produced three spinoff companies and 40 licensed technologies. The Georgia AIM initiative has drawn nearly $100 million in federal, state and private funding. Emory's Goizueta Business School runs a Center for AI in Finance with executives from JPMorganChase, BlackRock and U.S. Bank.

Joint biomedical labs are slated to move to Science Square, a planned district of about 1.8 million square feet that includes a research tower of roughly 364,000 square feet.
