OpenAI launched the OpenAI Deployment Company in May 2026, a new business unit backed by 19 global investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators including Bain, Goldman Sachs, and SoftBank. The venture, which is majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI, includes the acquisition of applied AI consulting firm Tomoro, bringing approximately 150 forward-deployed engineers into OpenAI's operations.
OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser described enterprise AI adoption as being at a tipping point, telling CNBC that the Deployment Company is designed to help businesses redesign organizational infrastructure and critical workflows around AI at speed and scale. The forward-deployed engineers will sit alongside client teams to understand workflows and connect back-office applications directly to AI model capabilities.
The launch comes as competition for enterprise AI business is intensifying across OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, all three of which have expanded services push in 2026. Separately, SAP announced a 100 million euro fund for partners to deploy SAP-built AI agents, reflecting how broadly the autonomous enterprise concept is moving from conference keynotes into funded deployment activity.
