Marketing technology company Optimizely introduced Virtual Teammates this week, an addition to its Opal agentic platform that assigns AI personas defined job titles and roles inside a marketing organization. The virtual teammates can be configured as a Chief of Staff, SEO and AI Search Analyst, Marketing Analyst, Personalization Strategist or CRO Manager, each with its own login, permission set and level of access to company data and systems.
Many AI assistants only act when prompted. Optimizely designed its teammates to run on a set schedule instead, checking inboxes, prioritizing tasks and delivering briefings without a human triggering each request. The teammates are also built to improve over time by studying how a given manager structures reports and adjusting their own output to match that format.
Optimizely customers can build a custom teammate, assigning it a name and selecting one of the six defined roles. The company said each teammate's identity and permissions are tracked separately so any action can be traced back to a specific AI persona for governance purposes. Optimizely pointed to one client whose six person marketing team used the digital teammates to add oversight of optimization and personalization work without expanding headcount.
The launch builds on Opal, the agentic marketing platform Optimizely introduced last year to guide marketers through planning, publishing and performance analysis. The release reflects a broader shift among marketing software vendors toward AI systems built for defined, ongoing roles inside a company rather than one time requests.
