Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Contentful, a composable content platform used by more than 4,800 brands, and unveiled a suite of AI agents built specifically for marketing teams. The company introduced the tools at its Connections event on June 3, signaling a deeper push into automated content and campaign work.
The new agents give marketing teams autonomous tools to handle pipeline development, content creation, and full campaign execution. Rather than assisting with single tasks, the agents are designed to carry workflows from planning through delivery, a step toward what vendors describe as agentic marketing systems.
The Contentful acquisition adds a content management layer to Salesforce's marketing stack. Contentful's composable model lets brands assemble and distribute content across channels through reusable components, which pairs with the agent tooling Salesforce is positioning for content production at scale.
The moves land amid a broader enterprise shift toward AI search optimization. Industry surveys show 94% of enterprise organizations plan to increase generative engine optimization investment in 2026, with that work rising above paid media and paid search as a marketing priority. Scaling AI content generation now ranks as the top content strategy for organizations chasing visibility in AI-driven search.
The expansion also surfaces a tension enterprise leaders are weighing. Some organizations have reported losing search visibility after aggressive AI content rollouts, and survey data shows companies overspending on content generation while underinvesting in governance. Salesforce's bet is that combining a content platform with autonomous agents helps teams produce at volume while keeping output under tighter control.
