Salesforce has agreed to acquire Fin, the AI customer service agent company formerly known as Intercom, for about 3.6 billion dollars, expanding its Agentforce portfolio of autonomous agents. The deal was announced June 15 and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, subject to customary regulatory review.
Fin builds AI agents that resolve customer support inquiries across chat and messaging channels without human intervention for routine cases. Folding the technology into Agentforce gives Salesforce additional capability in automated customer service, a function where enterprises have moved quickly to deploy AI to handle high volumes of tickets. The acquisition adds to a string of product launches Salesforce has made in the agentic space over the past year.
The purchase reflects consolidation in the market for AI agents, where established platform vendors are buying specialized startups to fill gaps in their portfolios rather than building every capability in-house. Customer service has emerged as one of the earliest functions to see scaled AI agent deployment, alongside sales operations and IT. Salesforce has tied its agentic products to its broader platform of customer data, positioning agents as a primary way enterprises interact with that information.
Salesforce reported that its agentic product line surpassed 1.2 billion dollars in annual recurring revenue across roughly 18,500 customers before the Fin deal. The acquisition signals continued investment in autonomous agents even as analysts debate how much measurable return enterprises are capturing from AI deployments. The transaction is among the larger AI-focused deals in enterprise software this year.
