Barnes Aerospace has closed its acquisition of Jet AirWerks, an Arkansas City, Kansas provider of inspection, repair, overhaul and disassembly services for commercial aeroengine components. The transaction enlarges the buyer's component repair and overhaul operation and deepens its position in commercial aftermarket services.
Jet AirWerks holds a wide portfolio of approved repairs and performs much of its processing in house. Its customer base spans domestic and international operators, with work concentrated on parts from the CFM56, CF6 and CF34 engine families. Those three programs account for a large share of the narrowbody and regional aircraft flying across the United States, and demand for component repair on them has stayed firm as carriers keep older airframes in service while new deliveries run behind schedule.
Barnes Aerospace said the added capability should improve operational efficiency and customer support across the repair lifecycle, and that the acquired engineering talent extends the range of turbine engine work it can take on.
"Jet AirWerks is a strong strategic fit that advances Barnes Aerospace's long-term growth strategy while expanding our ability to solve increasingly complex turbine engine challenges for our customers," said Mike Mosley, CEO of Barnes Aerospace.
The move fits a pattern across the aftermarket, where parts repair shops with approved repair libraries have drawn buyer interest because approved repairs can return a used part to service at lower cost than a new replacement. Shop visit backlogs and long lead times on new components have raised the value of that capacity. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the report.
