Boeing's 2025-2044 Commercial Market Outlook projects steady long-term demand for nearly 44,000 new commercial aircraft, driven by 4.2% annual passenger traffic growth that is expected to more than double the size of the global market. The forecast projects that air travel will continue to outpace global economic growth, with emerging markets playing an outsized role in driving demand.
The global widebody fleet is expected to reach approximately 8,320 aircraft by 2044, up from roughly 4,400 in 2024, as carriers in emerging markets expand long-haul operations. Boeing projects the global freighter fleet will expand by nearly two-thirds, with demand for 2,900 production and converted freighters driven by e-commerce growth and supply chain diversification.
For MRO operators, the Boeing forecast represents sustained aftermarket demand as a fleet nearly double its current size requires maintenance, repair, and overhaul support. The report notes that supply chain delays and extended aircraft retirements will keep older aircraft in service longer than previous cycles, further supporting parts and maintenance demand through the forecast period.
