Cirrus, the maker of the SR Series piston aircraft and the Vision Jet, has opened a 60,000 square foot warehousing center in Duluth, Minnesota. The facility merges several smaller warehouse sites into a single hub that supports aircraft production, aftermarket services, and product development.

The center handles the receiving, storing, processing, and shipping of parts. Cirrus designed the site to speed up those steps as its fleet grows around the world. The added storage and processing capacity also supports the company's upgrades and accessories business.

Cirrus Chief Executive Officer Zean Nielsen said the company is investing in infrastructure and capabilities as its fleet continues to grow around the world.

The Duluth opening follows other recent capacity additions. About two months earlier, Cirrus expanded its manufacturing hub in Grand Forks, North Dakota, by 30,000 square feet. Together, the two projects add floor space on the production side and the parts side of the business.

Parts logistics sits at the center of aircraft maintenance. Technicians cannot complete scheduled inspections or unscheduled repairs until the right components arrive, so the time a part spends in a warehouse affects how long an aircraft stays on the ground. Manufacturers that operate their own distribution centers control part of that timeline for owners and service centers that maintain their aircraft.

Cirrus did not state how many employees will work at the new site in the announcement coverage.
