Cobb County International Airport (McCollum Field, RYY) opened a new 6,000-square-foot passenger terminal in early 2026, bringing updated amenities to one of metro Atlanta's most active general aviation facilities. The terminal expansion positions the airport for continued growth as the Atlanta region's aerospace and MRO sector expands.
Cobb County International serves as a base for aircraft charter, maintenance services, and flight training operations. The airport is anchored by Hawthorne Global Aviation Services as its primary fixed-base operator, alongside several charter providers. The facility handles business aviation, corporate flights, and general aviation traffic that bypasses the congestion of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest by passenger count.
Metro Atlanta supports one of the largest aerospace ecosystems in the country. The broader Georgia aerospace sector generates a $57.5 billion economic impact and spans commercial transport, advanced manufacturing, and MRO operations. Georgia Power has recognized aerospace as a priority sector for the state's economic development strategy.
The MRO segment at metro Atlanta area airports benefits from proximity to Delta TechOps, which operates one of the largest commercial airline maintenance facilities in the world at Hartsfield-Jackson. Delta TechOps services Delta's own fleet as well as third-party airline and business aviation customers.
Duncan Aviation, one of the largest business aviation MRO providers in the US, operates a satellite shop at the Falcon Field facility in Atlanta, backed by its larger maintenance operations in Nebraska, Michigan, and Nevada.
