Boeing's Commercial Services Market Outlook projects that global maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification spending will reach $3.18 trillion between 2025 and 2044, expanding from $114 billion in 2024 to $208 billion by 2044, an increase of 83 percent. The MRO segment alone accounts for nearly 70 percent of the $4.7 trillion services market Boeing tracks across maintenance, digital services, parts distribution and training over the same 20 year period.

North America represents $970 billion of that services demand through 2044, with the region's aftermarket segment carrying an annual growth rate of 2.7 percent. Boeing's forecast ties this demand to fleet renewal, noting that nearly 80 percent of airplanes currently flying will be replaced over the next two decades as airlines modernize aging fleets and add capacity.

Personnel needs track closely with that growth. Boeing estimates commercial aviation will require 2.4 million new personnel worldwide over the next 20 years, including 435,000 in North America alone, split across new pilots, technicians and cabin crew. The forecast also points to rising adoption of artificial intelligence and predictive maintenance tools, with airlines and MRO providers using generative AI to help technicians troubleshoot maintenance records and flag problems before they ground an aircraft.

Digital services, the fastest growing segment Boeing tracks, are projected to more than double from $37 billion in 2024 to $98 billion by 2044.
