Boeing's Services Market Outlook projects total demand for aviation support and services at $4.7 trillion over the 20-year period spanning 2025 to 2044. The forecast reflects sustained growth in global passenger traffic, aging commercial fleets requiring increased maintenance, and accelerating adoption of new aircraft types that require specialized technician training.
Global passenger traffic is forecast to rise 4.9% in 2026, with airline industry revenues projected to exceed $1 trillion for the second consecutive year. That passenger growth translates directly to higher flight cycles and faster accumulation of maintenance requirements for airlines operating at or near capacity.
Oliver Wyman analysis prepared for IATA found that airlines paid approximately $3.1 billion in additional maintenance costs tied to supply chain disruptions in 2025. Parts shortages, extended lead times, and technician availability constraints all contributed to those elevated costs, and the root causes remain only partially resolved heading into 2026.
Boeing's own technician outlook identifies the need for 710,000 new maintenance technicians globally over the next 20 years, with North America responsible for a substantial portion of that demand. US aviation maintenance schools and apprenticeship programs are not currently producing graduates at a rate that meets the projected need.
For MRO operators looking to communicate workforce capabilities, certifications, and training programs to airline customers and acquisition prospects, aviation maintenance video production is a direct investment in that communication. Organizations that document and market their technical depth are better positioned as the talent competition intensifies.
