Global spending on aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul reached $136 billion in 2025, an 8 percent increase from $126 billion in 2024, according to Oliver Wyman's annual Global Fleet and MRO Market Forecast. The consultancy projects spending will rise to nearly $140 billion in 2026 and approach $193 billion by 2036, a level that would nearly double the market's 2019 size.

The report attributes the sustained growth to an aging global fleet. Older aircraft require more frequent maintenance and more replacement parts, which has driven up prices for both components and labor. Oliver Wyman describes the trend as a supercycle that began after the pandemic and shows little sign of easing.

The forecast marks the 26th annual edition of the firm's 10-year assessment of the commercial airline fleet and MRO market. Rising costs and persistent labor shortages feature prominently in the outlook, with operators and repair stations competing for skilled technicians and scarce parts. The data point to a maintenance market that continues to expand even as carriers work to manage the higher costs that come with keeping older aircraft in service longer.
