North American maintenance, repair and overhaul labor hour demand is projected to climb from 240.4 million hours in 2023 to 260.9 million hours by 2032, according to Aviation Week's Commercial Aviation Fleet and MRO Forecast. That growth works out to a compound annual rate of just 0.8 percent, slower than most other world regions, but it still represents demand valued at more than $2.5 billion over the decade.
North America is expected to account for 25.7 percent of worldwide MRO labor hours through 2032, with more than 63,400 individual service events forecast across the region's fleet during that span. The steady rise in hours tracks directly with fleet growth and utilization, as airlines fly existing aircraft more intensively while new deliveries remain constrained.
Boeing aircraft families are projected to generate the largest share of North American MRO hours at 14.9 percent of the total, ahead of Airbus families at 6.3 percent and Embraer aircraft at 2.0 percent. By aircraft size, narrowbody jets will account for the majority of demand at 55.4 percent of hours, with widebody aircraft making up another 33.9 percent, reflecting the mix of domestic short haul and long haul international flying that defines the North American market.
