Delta Air Lines expanded its maintenance footprint in metro Atlanta with a large engine repair shop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world. TechOps, the carrier's maintenance, repair, and overhaul division, opened the 155,000-square-foot facility off M H Jackson Service Road.
The shop houses more than 100 mechanics with the capacity to disassemble and repair hundreds of Geared Turbofan engines each year. The addition strengthens TechOps, already described as the largest airline maintenance, repair, and overhaul operation in North America, at a time when engine work commands a growing share of aftermarket demand.
The investment reflects the broader strength of Georgia's aerospace sector, which spans Fulton, Clayton, and neighboring metro Atlanta counties. Aerospace products rank as the state's top export, reaching 12.6 billion dollars in 2024. Metro Atlanta serves as a major center for the industry, helping place Georgia among the nation's top five aerospace exporters with an economic impact estimated at 57.5 billion dollars.
Workforce development is keeping pace with the facility growth. Kennesaw State University launched a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering in the fall of 2025, adding engineering capacity to a region that depends on a steady pipeline of skilled maintenance and technical talent.
The engine shop positions Atlanta to capture more of the heavy engine maintenance volume that airlines and lessors are scheduling as fleets age and next-generation powerplants require more frequent attention.
