Delta TechOps has expanded its Atlanta maintenance footprint with a new facility dedicated to next-generation engine work, reinforcing the metro Atlanta region's role as a maintenance hub. The addition covers 155,000 square feet and includes 60 engine bays, giving the division more capacity to handle a growing volume of engine overhauls at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The new facility is built around servicing Pratt and Whitney geared turbofan engines, specifically the PW1100G and PW1500G models. Those engines power Delta's Airbus A321neo and A220 aircraft, two fleets the carrier has been growing. The facility will also take on engine work for external MRO customers, supporting Delta's broader push to sell maintenance services to other airlines and operators.
The geared turbofan family has been a focal point across the industry because of high demand for shop visits and a global shortage of available slots. Added capacity in Atlanta gives Delta more control over turnaround times for its own aircraft while opening a revenue channel from outside carriers that operate the same engine types.
Delta TechOps is based at Hartsfield-Jackson, which sits across Fulton and Clayton counties, and its main campus already spans about 2.7 million square feet. The new engine facility adds specialized capability at a time when engine work is claiming a rising share of total maintenance spending, and it strengthens the concentration of skilled aviation maintenance jobs in the metro Atlanta area.
