The Federal Aviation Administration announced a $26 million investment to expand aviation workforce development programs, targeting a growing technician shortage that has strained airline and MRO operations for several years. The funding supports community college partnerships, apprenticeship programs, and hands-on training facilities at aviation technical schools across the United States.

Aviation Maintenance Magazine reported that the initiative addresses a projected shortfall of more than 40,000 aviation maintenance technicians over the next decade. The investment is part of a broader FAA workforce strategy that includes outreach to transitioning military personnel and underrepresented communities.

MRO providers and regional carriers welcomed the announcement, noting that workforce constraints have lengthened turnaround times and increased costs for line maintenance and heavy checks. Industry groups have urged Congress to provide sustained multi-year funding to keep pace with fleet growth and retirements.
