AAR Corp. hosted Jackie Black, division manager for aircraft maintenance at the Federal Aviation Administration, at the company's engineering services and airframe maintenance facilities in Greensboro, North Carolina. The visit covered AAR's engineering capabilities along with its safety, regulatory compliance and operational standards.
Black began at AAR's engineering services facility, which joined the company's network through the acquisition of Aircraft Reconfig Technologies earlier this year. That transaction widened AAR's engineering bench and brought an Organization Designation Authorization into its portfolio. An ODA allows a qualified organization to perform specified certification activities on the FAA's behalf, which shortens the path from engineering concept to approved modification for airline and cargo operators.
Greensboro is one of the larger airframe maintenance footprints in the southeastern United States, and the site handles heavy checks, modifications and cabin reconfiguration work for commercial and government customers. Pairing engineering services with the hangar line at a single campus lets design work, instructions for continued airworthiness and the physical modification move through one location.
The FAA visit fits a broader pattern of regulator engagement with large repair stations as maintenance demand rises and technical workforce supply stays tight. Carriers are keeping older aircraft in service longer while new deliveries run behind schedule, which pushes more airframe and component work into third-party shops.
Elsewhere in the maintenance market this month, Jet Parts Engineering received FAA approval for nine new parts manufacturer approval parts and three designated engineering representative repairs covering platforms that include the Boeing 737, the Embraer E170 and the CFM International CFM56.
