Pratt & Whitney opened an expanded maintenance facility at its Columbus Engine Center in Columbus, Georgia, adding 81,000 square feet of operational space and committing more than $70 million to the project. Completed in April 2026, the expansion increases the facility's annual GTF engine maintenance capacity by more than 25%, helping the manufacturer address growing demand for service on its Geared Turbofan engine family as the global GTF fleet continues to grow.
The Columbus Engine Center has served as a cornerstone of Pratt & Whitney's domestic MRO infrastructure for decades. The latest investment introduces advanced equipment and precision tooling designed specifically for the GTF platform, which powers the Airbus A320neo family and a range of narrowbody aircraft operated by carriers worldwide. As these aircraft age into their first major maintenance cycles, the need for high-capacity GTF engine shops is intensifying.
Georgia's MRO sector has earned recognition as one of the strongest in the Southeast, supported by proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and a workforce pipeline supplied by regional technical colleges and university aviation programs. Pratt & Whitney's parent company, RTX, noted the Columbus expansion as part of a broader commitment of more than $100 million to expand its U.S. MRO footprint in 2026.
