Anthropic has signed a $45 billion agreement with data center developer Nscale for AI computing capacity at Nscale's campus in West Virginia, according to a report from Bloomberg. The six year deal covers 460 megawatts of capacity at the site and will include Nvidia's next generation Vera Rubin AI chips, which are expected to come online in late 2027. The agreement runs for a term of six years.
Nscale is developing the Monarch Compute Campus on a 2,250 acre site the company acquired in March 2026. The campus has potential capacity of up to 8 gigawatts, with the first 2 gigawatt phase expected online in the first half of 2028. Power for the site is planned to come from Caterpillar G3500 series natural gas generator sets. Microsoft has also committed to 1.35 gigawatts of capacity at the same campus, where Nscale is setting up a large scale GPU deployment based on Nvidia's newest chip architecture.
The agreement adds to a rapid expansion of compute capacity commitments for Anthropic, which has signed more than a dozen letters of intent for data center leases with US developers this year and committed to renting more than 10 gigawatts of servers from cloud providers overall. Nscale is separately preparing for an initial public offering, with reports indicating the company is seeking to raise about $3 billion in the listing as it continues to build out capacity for AI customers across its US campuses.
