Data center construction continues to accelerate across metro Atlanta's western suburbs in 2026, with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft advancing major campuses in Douglas and Fulton counties. Amazon Web Services plans to invest at least $5 billion to build data center campuses in Douglas County, creating more than 250 full-time jobs in what county officials describe as the largest capital investment in the county's history.
Amazon's broader Georgia commitment is larger still. AWS is directing roughly $11 billion into two major facilities in the state, one in Butts County southeast of Atlanta and another in Douglas County to the west. The projects add to a construction wave tied to cloud and AI infrastructure demand.
Microsoft is expanding on two fronts. Its Douglasville campus in Douglas County, where phase one construction began in 2024, is expected to reach completion in 2026 and will include nearly 1 million square feet across four buildings on a 160-acre parcel. In Fulton County, Microsoft has moved forward with a Palmetto campus spanning up to 116 acres, with completion targeted for 2028.
Regional developers remain active as well. DC BLOX acquired 55 acres and began construction on a 180 megawatt data center campus in Douglasville. The concentration of hyperscale investment reflects Georgia's growing role as a Southeast data center hub, supported by land availability, transmission access, and state incentives.
