The worldwide data center market is on pace to generate $572.99 billion in revenue in 2026, according to Statista Market Insights, as cloud providers, colocation operators, and hyperscale campuses continue expanding hardware and infrastructure capacity. The United States remains the largest single national market by both revenue and total data center count, according to Statista's country level tracking updated in November 2025.

Global spending on cloud IT infrastructure has climbed steadily over the past decade, with Statista's tracking showing annual outlays now approaching $134 billion, up sharply from levels recorded five years earlier. Statista also tracks global data center supply by region in gigawatts alongside vacancy rates across leading markets, both of which point to tight available capacity even as new construction accelerates.

Underlying that market growth is a surge in physical construction activity. US data center construction spending reached an annualized rate of about $41 billion in July 2025, according to Census Bureau data cited by Visual Capitalist, up from roughly $1.6 billion in early 2014, an increase of more than twenty five times over eleven years. The spending surge places data centers in direct competition with offices, warehouses, and industrial facilities for available land, power capacity, and transmission access, particularly across fast growing Southeast and Texas markets.

Statista's pricing data also tracks construction cost per watt across major global data center markets, showing wide variation driven by land costs, labor availability, and local power pricing. Analysts expect the combination of rising market revenue, tight vacancy, and climbing construction costs to keep shaping site selection decisions as cloud and AI infrastructure providers compete for space through the remainder of the decade.
