The global data center market is projected to reach $340 billion in revenue by 2027, up from an estimated $187 billion in 2022, according to Statista market size data, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of approximately 12.7% across the five-year period. The expansion encompasses colocation services, hyperscale cloud infrastructure, enterprise-owned facilities, and edge computing deployments.
Cloud infrastructure providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, account for the largest share of revenue growth. Hyperscale capital expenditures by these three providers alone are projected to exceed $200 billion cumulatively between 2025 and 2027 as AI infrastructure buildouts accelerate.
Colocation services represent the fastest-growing segment by customer count, as mid-market enterprises shift workloads from owned data center facilities to third-party colocation campuses. US colocation revenue is projected at $38.4 billion in 2027, up from $24.1 billion in 2022. Equinix, Digital Realty, and Iron Mountain are the largest US colocation providers by revenue.
The US remains the largest single country market with approximately 33% of global data center revenue. Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region, with China, Japan, and Singapore collectively accounting for significant capacity additions.
Edge computing represents an emerging revenue layer. Data center operators are deploying smaller facilities in secondary markets to reduce latency for real-time AI applications, autonomous systems, and industrial IoT workloads. The edge segment is projected to reach $24 billion by 2027, up from $9 billion in 2022.
