A Statista chart tracks annual capital expenditure at Meta Platforms from 2020 through 2026, showing how spending on AI infrastructure has accelerated. The figures come from Meta, and the 2026 value is a forecast the company provided on July 29, 2026.
Meta spent $15.7 billion in 2020 and $19.2 billion in 2021. Spending rose to $32.0 billion in 2022, then dipped to $28.1 billion in 2023. The total reached $39.2 billion in 2024 and $72.2 billion in 2025.
For 2026, Meta guided to a range of $130.0 billion to $145.0 billion. The low end of that range is about 1.8 times the 2025 total, and the high end is about 2 times that figure. Compared with 2020, the midpoint of the 2026 range is roughly 8.8 times larger.
Much of this capital goes to data center construction, servers and networking equipment. Meta has been expanding campuses in the US, and its builds are among the large loads that utilities and grid operators are planning around. Capex announcements from hyperscale operators help set the demand forecasts that regional transmission organizations use in capacity planning.
The chart frames the spending as part of the company's pursuit of AI superintelligence, which is the framing Statista used in its headline. The 2023 dip stands out as the only year in the series where annual spending fell from the prior year.
The chart footnote credits Meta as the data source.
