The United States data center market is forecast to generate $168.51 billion in revenue in 2026, the most of any country and roughly a third of the $538.91 billion global market, according to Statista's market outlook.

The country's physical footprint matches its revenue lead. As of April 2026, the United States hosted a reported 4,423 data centers, the largest count of any nation and more than the next several countries combined. Alternative estimates using narrower definitions put the US market at $122.08 billion for 2026, up from $114.48 billion in 2025, with projections reaching $168.34 billion by 2031 at a 6.64% compound annual growth rate.

Construction data shows how quickly capital is shifting into the sector. Annualized private data center construction spending climbed to $49.5 billion as of March 2026, and data centers now account for 45.7% of all private office construction put in place in the United States, up from 12.8% in 2021. In under five years, server halls have gone from a niche category to nearly half of the office construction economy.

The Southeast has captured an outsized share of that spending, with Georgia, Virginia and Texas ranking among the most active development markets for hyperscale and colocation projects.
