The United States hosts 5,427 data centers, about 46% of the global total, according to a Statista chart based on Cloudscene data as of May 2026. Cloudscene lists more than 11,700 operational data centers worldwide, and the chart covers the 15 countries with the largest counts. Statista describes data centers as buildings or groups of buildings that house computer systems, mainly telecom and storage equipment.

The gap between the United States and every other country is wide. Germany ranks second with 529 facilities and the United Kingdom third with 523. China follows with 449 and Canada has 337. France (322), Australia (314), the Netherlands (298), Russia (251) and Japan (222) complete the top ten.

Below that, counts cluster more tightly. Brazil has 197 data centers, Mexico 173, Italy 168 and Poland 144 on the chart. Adding the 15 countries it shows gives 9,507 facilities, with the United States alone accounting for more than half of that subtotal.

The US count is more than ten times that of Germany, the next-largest market. Even the combined total of the next four countries, 1,838 facilities, equals about a third of the US figure. Statista notes that the chart is a snapshot of distribution and does not show facility size or storage capacity, so the counts say nothing about relative megawatts or compute.
