The state hosts more than 200 data center facilities, and demand has outpaced supply. Atlanta data center market closed a recent quarter with a vacancy rate near 1 percent, and many facilities under construction are leased before they open. Google expansion joins a wave of activity across the region. Core Scientific has grown its presence in Dalton, Microsoft has advanced a campus in Douglasville, and developers have filed plans for large projects near Augusta and Thomson. DC BLOX is building sites in Conyers, Georgia, along with locations in Alabama and South Carolina.
The buildout reflects surging demand for computing capacity tied to cloud services and artificial intelligence workloads. It also raises questions about power and land, as utilities and local governments weigh the electricity and infrastructure needed to support large campuses. For LaGrange, the project points to new construction investment and the prospect of long term operational jobs tied to the facility.
