QTS Data Centers, a Blackstone-owned company, has filed a Development of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a project known as ATL2 East. The filing describes a roughly 2 million square foot data center on about 313 acres west of Veterans Parkway in Fayetteville, Fayette County, with a possible completion date of 2029. QTS filed the application through an affiliate, QTS Eastwood, LLC.
The company already operates two data center campuses elsewhere in Georgia, a site of more than 100 acres in central Atlanta offering more than 275 megawatts of capacity, and a 385,000 square foot facility in Suwanee. QTS has also been developing a much larger campus nearby known as Project Excalibur, first filed in 2022, which is planned to reach 6.6 million square feet across 16 buildings on a 615-acre site with roughly 250 megawatts of capacity. QTS acquired the Fayetteville land in August 2022 for 153.8 million dollars.
It is not yet clear whether the new ATL2 East filing represents an expansion beyond the original Project Excalibur plans or a formal amendment to them. Fayetteville sits about 20 miles south of Atlanta, an area that has become one of the most active data center construction corridors in the Southeast as cloud providers and colocation operators compete for available land and grid capacity.
