Antares Nuclear announced on August 27 that it has executed a binding multi-year fuel supply agreement with Standard Nuclear, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker STDN. Standard Nuclear will deliver up to eight metric tons of uranium in TRISO fuel to Antares through 2035.
Antares will use the fuel in the compact microreactors it is developing for defense and space missions, including fielded systems and mission-critical infrastructure that operates away from the grid. The agreement builds on joint development work the two companies have run since 2025 covering fuel specification, manufacturability, and production-path alignment.
Jordan Bramble, chief executive and co-founder of Antares, said securing an industrial-scale TRISO supply is a foundational step in moving the company's microreactors from demonstration into deployment. Kurt Terrani, chief executive of Standard Nuclear, said the company is scaling TRISO production capacity across identical facilities to match customer requirements as those customers move toward commercial deployment.
Standard Nuclear is headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The announcement describes it as the only United States company operating industrial-scale TRISO fuel fabrication facilities today.
Antares was founded in 2023 and is backed by more than 600 million dollars in funding. The company achieved initial criticality of its Mark-0 microreactor in 2026 under the Department of Energy Reactor Pilot Program. Antares says it is on track to produce electricity from an advanced reactor in 2027, with initial production deployments to United States military installations beginning in 2028. The company operates facilities in Torrance, California, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Aiken, South Carolina.
