Blue Energy and GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy signed an agreement on 17 August 2026 that moves a 2.5 GW gas-plus-nuclear power project planned for Victoria, Texas into its next phase.

The project pairs conventional generation with small modular reactors on one site. An initial 1 GW will come from two GE Vernova 7HA.02 gas turbines supplying a data center. A further 1.5 GW would follow from up to five GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactors.

The new agreement covers engineering design, licensing and safety analysis for both the turbines and the reactors. A final investment decision is scheduled for 2027.

The two companies announced the collaboration in May 2026. Blue Energy describes itself as a vertically integrated deployment platform for financeable, turnkey nuclear power plants compatible with leading reactor technology. It applies an approach it calls the Blue Way, which relies on prefabrication, transportation, off-site fabrication and super module assembly to improve schedule and cost predictability. The company says the standardized, modular design of the BWRX-300 supports that method.

Blue Energy chief executive and co-founder Jake Jurewicz said the agreement keeps the company moving toward building a nuclear energy production line. Eric Gray, chief executive of GE Vernova's Power segment, said the work combines the company's HA gas turbine technology with GE Vernova Hitachi's advanced nuclear technology to deliver baseload power at the scale and speed customers need.

The BWRX-300 is a boiling water reactor design rated at roughly 300 MW per unit. The first unit is under construction at Ontario Power Generation's Darlington site, with completion expected by the end of the decade.
