The US Energy Information Administration maintains nuclear generation and capacity summary data on a monthly basis extending back to 1973 and on an annual basis extending back to 1957. The series covers the full operating history of the US commercial reactor fleet.

Recent figures place nuclear electricity at 19 percent of total US generation in 2024, with the agency projecting an 18 percent share for 2026, close to the 2025 level. That stability across decades of fleet change reflects offsetting movements: reactor retirements have reduced unit count while uprates and improved capacity factors have raised output per remaining unit.

The agency also publishes comparative international data. Five countries account for 71 percent of world nuclear generating capacity, a concentration that shapes global fuel demand and enrichment services markets.

Monthly reporting granularity matters for grid analysis. Refueling outages cluster in spring and fall shoulder seasons when electricity demand is lowest, and the monthly series makes those patterns visible in a way annual totals cannot.

Nuclear and uranium data published by the agency covers fuel purchases, enrichment feed and separative work requirements alongside generation. Those series connect reactor operations to the fuel cycle, which has become the focus of federal investment following the $2.7 billion enrichment award program.
