Cost recovery for the project has been spread across Georgia Power's customer base through multiple rate cases before state regulators.
Nationally, nuclear power continues to supply a significant share of carbon-free electricity generation even as data center and AI-driven demand growth strains grid capacity in multiple regions. The Vogtle data point is increasingly cited in national discussions comparing the economics of large-reactor construction against the smaller, factory-built small modular reactor designs currently working through NRC licensing.
