Holtec International has signed a non-binding agreement with US utility Entergy and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction to evaluate potential deployment of Holtec's SMR-300 small modular reactor across Entergy's service territory, the companies announced. The framework will let the three parties jointly assess customer demand, candidate sites and possible commercial structures for dual-unit SMR-300 projects aimed at large industrial and data center customers. Entergy operates one of the largest nuclear fleets and electric utility systems in the country, serving customers across Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas.
Holtec said the collaboration reflects accelerating demand for reliable, always-on power to support expanding industrial facilities, advanced manufacturing and AI-driven data centers across the Gulf South. If pursued, projects would be delivered through Holtec's integrated engineering, procurement and construction platform with Hyundai E&C, giving the companies a single delivery structure from manufacturing through commissioning. The SMR-300 is a pressurized water reactor producing about 300 megawatts of electrical output, and Holtec's first planned units, named Pioneer 1 and 2, are undergoing US Nuclear Regulatory Commission review for a construction permit at the Palisades site in Michigan.
The Entergy agreement follows other recent SMR-300 moves, including a cooperation agreement covering Utah and the Mountain West region and a joint venture advancing site work for a proposed plant at Green River, Utah. Holtec has also pursued SMR-300 opportunities in the United Kingdom and Hungary, positioning the reactor design as a candidate for utilities across multiple regions seeking new baseload capacity tied to industrial and data center growth.
