Georgia Power said its Grid Investment Program improved reliability for more than 535,000 customers during 2025 and, combined with self-healing grid technology, prevented 108 million customer outage minutes over the year. The Atlanta based utility released the figures on September 8 as part of its storm readiness messaging for September.

The company serves 2.8 million customers in all but four of Georgia's 159 counties. It said smart grid equipment, automation and self-healing circuits allow it to identify outages faster, reroute power remotely and restore service without dispatching a crew to every fault. Those systems carried part of the load during hurricane season, when heat and storm activity push demand and stress distribution equipment across the state.

Georgia Power is the largest electric subsidiary of Southern Company. Its generating fleet includes nuclear, coal and natural gas units along with solar, hydroelectric and wind resources. The nuclear share of that mix comes from Plant Vogtle and Plant Hatch, which supply baseload output that supports system reliability during periods of peak demand.

For September the utility is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency on preparedness messaging. Georgia has not seen a major hurricane or tropical storm this season. The company is directing customers to its outage map, outage alert enrollment and storm center resources, and it is asking commercial and residential customers to plan for extended interruptions before severe weather arrives rather than during an event.
