Holtec International, Entergy Services and Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on August 4, 2026 that they signed a non-binding agreement to evaluate potential deployment of Holtec's SMR-300 small modular reactor across Entergy's Gulf South service territory, which spans Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas.
The memorandum of agreement sets up a framework for the three companies to jointly study customer demand, candidate sites and possible commercial structures for dual-unit SMR-300 projects. Each SMR-300 unit is a Generation III+ pressurized water reactor producing about 340 megawatts of electricity, so a standard two-unit configuration would supply roughly 680 megawatts of continuous, carbon-free power.
Executives said the collaboration reflects rising demand for reliable baseload electricity to support industrial facilities, advanced manufacturing and data centers expanding across the Gulf South. Under the proposed delivery structure, Holtec would lead reactor technology, nuclear systems, manufacturing and fuel procurement, while Hyundai E&C would lead construction and balance-of-plant engineering through an integrated project office.
The companies pointed to Holtec's first SMR-300 units already under development at the company's Palisades site in Michigan as the reference plant for future deployments, with major components expected to be manufactured domestically at Holtec's Advanced Manufacturing Division. Entergy operates one of the largest nuclear fleets in the country and said it will weigh SMR-300 deployment as part of its longer-term resource planning alongside its existing generation portfolio.
