Nano Nuclear Energy, a U.S. advanced reactor developer, has signed a three-year engineering services agreement with the U.S. subsidiary of Argentina's IMPSA to assess the design and manufacture of key components for its Kronos microreactor. NucNet reported the agreement on October 23.

The initial work is a design review and manufacturing feasibility study of about six months, with the reactor pressure vessel the principal component under assessment. IMPSA will examine requirements under Section III of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, which covers nuclear components. Nano said the study is expected to identify fabrication constraints, inspection difficulties and supply chain risks early enough for changes to be built into the design.

Nano is developing the Kronos MMR, a 15-MWe micro-modular reactor system based on a high-temperature gas-cooled design. It uses helium coolant and tristructural isotropic fuel particles embedded in a ceramic matrix. Heat would move to a molten-salt thermal energy storage system, and the design supports modular and phased deployment.

The company recently signed an agreement with Tillman Global Holdings aimed at deploying up to 2 GW of reactor power by the mid-2030s to support the growth of AI data centers in the United States. Nano has also submitted a construction permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a Kronos MMR at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Earlier coverage from NucNet records a collaboration announcement on September 29 and a Kronos deployment agreement for U.S. data centers on August 27.
