US production of uranium concentrate, known as U3O8, totaled 1,043,474 pounds in the fourth quarter of 2025, a 217 percent jump from third quarter production of 329,623 pounds, according to the latest Domestic Uranium Production Report from the US Energy Information Administration, the statistical arm of the Department of Energy. The sharp quarterly increase reflects a broader ramp up in domestic uranium mining activity as new and restarted operations come online across several western states.
Production during the quarter occurred at seven facilities spread across four states. Wyoming hosted the largest concentration of active sites, with four operations including the Ross Central Processing Plant, the Lost Creek project, the Smith Ranch-Highland operation, and the Willow Creek project. The remaining production came from a single facility each in Texas, at the Alta Mesa site, Utah, at the White Mesa mill, and Nebraska, at the Crow Butte operation.
The EIA's uranium production data provides a government-verified benchmark for tracking the pace of the US uranium mining recovery, which has accelerated as utilities and nuclear developers seek to reduce reliance on foreign-sourced uranium. The federal data underscores that despite recent project restarts and new mine approvals, including Uranium Energy Corp's Burke Hollow project in Texas, domestic production remains a small fraction of the more than 50 million pounds of uranium the United States consumes annually to fuel its nuclear reactor fleet.
The EIA compiles the quarterly production figures from mandatory surveys of licensed uranium mills, in-situ recovery plants, and heap leach facilities operating in the United States. The agency's next quarterly report, covering the first quarter of 2026, is scheduled for release in June 2026.
