OceanaGold Corporation began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker OGC in April 2026, and company leaders say the listing was driven largely by the performance of its Haile Gold Mine in Kershaw, South Carolina. The mine, located in southern Lancaster County, is the only active gold mine in the United States east of the Mississippi River and ranks as the nation's fourth-largest gold producer overall.

OceanaGold purchased the Haile site in 2015 and reopened it in 2017 after roughly 25 years of dormancy. The 4,500-acre operation now extracts about 200,000 ounces of gold per year, accounting for 45 percent of the company's total gold production and making it the largest single contributor to OceanaGold's output this year, according to CEO Gerard Bond.

Bond said the company's market capitalization has grown from about 1.5 billion dollars four years ago to roughly 7 billion dollars today, a scale that made a listing on the largest capital market in the world the logical next step. OceanaGold, headquartered in British Columbia, remains listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange as well.

The Haile mine employs more than 800 people and sits atop reserves the company expects to work through 2037, with continued exploration aimed at extending operations well beyond that date. Lancaster County has a 200-year history in gold mining, and Bond said the renewed activity at Haile has reminded many residents of South Carolina's substantial place in the American mining industry.
