Silver futures opened at $64.63 per ounce on Friday, August 14, 2026, down slightly from the prior session's close before climbing back above $65 during early trading, reaching $65.14 by 8:03 a.m. Eastern time. The move followed a week of softer than expected inflation data that shifted market expectations toward the Federal Reserve holding interest rates steady at its September meeting.

According to the CME Group's FedWatch tool, traders now assign roughly a 69 percent probability that the Fed will leave rates unchanged next month, compared to about 42 percent one month earlier. The share of traders expecting a quarter point rate increase fell to roughly 31 percent from 50 percent over the same period. Data released this week showed United States core producer prices increased less in July than economists had forecast, easing concern that inflation pressure is broadly intensifying.

Because silver and other precious metals pay no interest, reduced expectations for higher borrowing costs tend to support their prices relative to yield bearing assets. Silver has posted a gain of roughly 70 percent compared to the same date one year ago, and is up about 12 percent over the trailing month, though the metal remains below the year-over-year peak growth rate of more than 170 percent reached in mid-May.

Silver's price swings continue to track more closely with industrial demand trends, including solar panel production and electronics manufacturing, than gold, which is used primarily as a store of value during periods of economic uncertainty.
