Silver outperformed both gold and platinum in trading this week, according to a market update from Texas Precious Metals, a bullion refiner and depository operator based in Shiner, Texas. Silver traded near $65 an ounce, up roughly 0.8 percent on the day, with gains attributed to combined monetary and industrial demand, particularly from solar panel manufacturing and electronics production.
Gold held largely steady near $4,296 an ounce as a stronger U.S. dollar and Treasury yields near two-decade highs limited further gains, even though the metal remains up more than 14 percent over the past year. The update noted gold has pulled back roughly 1.6 percent over the past week and 8.5 percent over the past month after a strong earlier run.
Platinum posted the strongest performance of the three metals, trading near $1,792 an ounce, supported by tight above-ground supply and steady industrial and automotive-catalyst buying.
Analysts tracking the metals market have pointed to persistent supply bottlenecks in above-ground silver refining capacity as a factor supporting prices even as broader precious metals momentum has cooled from earlier in the year.
