Silver September futures opened at $59.81 an ounce on Monday, July 27, 2026, a gain of 1.5 percent from Friday's close. The move put silver higher across the daily, weekly, monthly, and annual comparison at the same time, the first alignment of all four since May.
The immediate driver was geopolitical. After two weeks of exchanged airstrikes, the United States paused its attacks over the weekend in an effort to restart peace talks. Precious metals had been trading on conflict headlines through most of the month.
The year to date picture remains negative. Silver is down 18.6 percent since the start of 2026, a decline that traces to the January peak rather than to recent weakness. Measured against the same point last year the metal is 48 percent higher.
Several forces are pulling in opposite directions. A stronger dollar and shifting Federal Reserve policy expectations weigh on the metal, while the inflationary energy shock tied to the conflict pushes the other way. Industrial demand continues to expand through solar installation, electric vehicle production, AI infrastructure buildout, and electronics manufacturing.
Analysts continue to project a sixth consecutive year of global silver deficits, with annual demand exceeding supply by tens of millions of ounces even as industrial consumption in solar and electronics softens from prior peaks.
