Silver futures opened at $65.94 per ounce on Tuesday, marking the first time the metal has traded above $65 since June. The move builds on a rally that started after last week's jobs report came in weaker than expected, reducing the odds that the Federal Reserve raises interest rates again in September.
Investors have also renewed their interest in precious metals as tensions between the United States and Iran show no sign of easing. Both sides are holding firm on their negotiating positions, delaying any resolution that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to full shipping traffic.
Silver's price is now up roughly 13.5 percent over the past week and nearly 10 percent over the past month, according to Yahoo Finance market data. Year over year, the metal has gained more than 73 percent, reflecting a run that took it to a record intraday high near $121 in January before a sharp correction pulled prices back into the mid-$60s range.
Analysts at BlackRock and J.P. Morgan continue to see room for further gains, projecting silver could surpass $80 per ounce by the end of 2026 and reach the $100 mark by 2030. Two inflation reports due out later this week are expected to offer additional signals on where the Fed stands heading into its next policy meeting, a factor traders are watching closely for its effect on precious metals pricing.
