Uranium Energy Corp began production activities at its Burke Hollow in-situ recovery uranium mine in southern Texas after receiving approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, marking the first new ISR uranium operation built in the United States in more than ten years, according to trade publication Nuclear Newswire. Uranium extracted at the site will be processed at the company's Hobson Central Processing Plant, which serves as the hub for a network of satellite ISR projects across the Texas Uranium Belt.
The Burke Hollow site carries estimated mineral resources of roughly 6.16 million pounds of U3O8 in measured and indicated categories, plus another 4.88 million pounds in inferred resources. Company officials noted that only about half of the 20,000 acre property has been explored to date, suggesting significant additional development potential beyond current estimates. Uranium Energy Corp, headquartered in Corpus Christi, Texas, also recently secured approval to expand production capacity at its Christensen Ranch ISR operation in Wyoming, a site that resumed operations in 2024 after being suspended in 2018.
With Burke Hollow now producing, the company says it operates the only two active producing ISR hub-and-spoke platforms held by any single uranium company in the United States. Combined licensed production capacity across its Wyoming and South Texas operations totals approximately 12 million pounds per year. The company also holds resource portfolios in Canada's Athabasca Basin, including the Roughrider project in Saskatchewan, and is developing a separate domestic uranium refining and conversion subsidiary, though no site has yet been selected for that facility.
Company CEO Amir Adnani said the project's path from initial discovery in 2012 to production in 2026 reflects the company's strategy of building what he called a scalable, multifaceted production platform supported by the largest uranium resource base in the United States. A third project, the Ludeman ISR site in Wyoming, is planned to begin production in 2027.
