The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has released results from its 2026 International Roadcheck, a three day inspection blitz that involved 54,575 commercial motor vehicle and driver inspections across North America. The results show 81 percent of vehicles and 94.2 percent of drivers inspected had no out of service violations.
Inspectors placed 10,350 vehicles and 3,184 drivers out of service. They also affixed 17,680 CVSA decals to vehicles that passed a full inspection without critical mechanical or out of service violations.
Among the 44,047 Level I, II and V vehicle inspections, brake systems were the most common out of service violation, accounting for 3,379 citations, or 24.3 percent of all vehicle violations. Tires ranked second with 2,914 violations, followed by defective brakes with 2,072. Cargo securement, this year's inspection focus area, ranked fourth with 1,724 violations, and lights accounted for 1,659.
On the driver side, inspectors conducted 53,271 Level I, II and III inspections. Missing medical cards were the top driver violation, accounting for 1,072 citations, or 27 percent of the total, followed by hours of service violations at 929 and missing commercial driver's licenses at 620. Inspectors also issued 146 out of service orders for electronic logging device tampering, this year's driver focus area.
Inspectors examined 2,590 vehicles hauling hazardous materials, resulting in 368 vehicle and 63 driver out of service violations. Placarding issues topped that list.
The results give fleet managers a checklist for pretrip inspections, covering brakes, tires, cargo securement, driver credentials and electronic logging records.
