The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance carried out its annual International Roadcheck inspection campaign May 12-14, 2026, targeting commercial vehicles across North America with heightened scrutiny on electronic logging device tampering and cargo securement. CVSA personnel conducted inspections at weigh stations and pop-up sites throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico during the 72-hour period.

On day one alone, inspectors recorded 1,580 inspections, 2,637 violations, and 496 out-of-service orders, a 31.4% OOS rate per inspection. CVSA roadside inspection specialist Jeremy Disbrow reported that cargo securement ranked among the top out-of-service violations nationwide, while false records of duty status led driver violations in Canadian provinces.

The enforcement blitz carried immediate freight market consequences. DAT Freight and Analytics data showed reefer linehaul rates surged 33.3% to $2.68 per mile during inspection week, while dry van rates climbed 10.5% to $2.22 per mile and flatbed rates edged up 3.7% to $2.80 per mile. DAT principal analyst Dean Croke attributed the rate spike to carriers taking trucks off the road during enforcement week and broader supply tightening that has persisted throughout 2026.

A month earlier, CVSA conducted an unannounced Brake Safety Day on April 14, inspecting 4,021 commercial motor vehicles in a single day and placing 14.3% out of service due to brake violations. Final 2026 Roadcheck results remain pending as CVSA compiles data from all participating jurisdictions.
