Daimler Truck North America announced on August 6 that it will build a new manufacturing facility in the United States, a plant the company expects will become its largest truck production site in the country once complete. The announcement did not name a location. DTNA said it is evaluating multiple sites based on supply chain access, workforce availability, transportation infrastructure and long term manufacturing strategy, with a final decision to follow.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 following site selection, with production targeted to start in 2029. The facility will expand capacity for both vocational and on highway trucks and will rely on flexible assembly systems designed to let the company shift output between vehicle types as demand changes.
DTNA said the project will create thousands of jobs over time and will involve partnerships with regional suppliers, educational institutions and community organizations near the eventual site. The company framed the investment as part of a broader modernization of its North American manufacturing network rather than a replacement for existing plants.
The announcement lands as truck makers weigh capital spending against a freight market defined by tight capacity and elevated spot rates. Class 8 tractor sales have lagged replacement demand this year even as freight rates hold near record levels, a dynamic that has left some fleets cautious about new equipment purchases despite manufacturers investing in future output.
