Enforcement agencies across the United States, Canada, and Mexico conducted the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Roadcheck from May 12 to 14, 2026 -- the largest targeted commercial motor vehicle enforcement program in the world. During this 72-hour window, inspectors focused on two critical areas: electronic logging device (ELD) integrity and cargo securement compliance.

For 2026, CVSA inspectors placed particular emphasis on ELD tampering and hours-of-service violations on the driver side, while cargo securement dominated vehicle-side checks. Fleets with documentation gaps or devices on the revoked list faced immediate out-of-service orders during the blitz period. In 2025, inspectors completed more than 56,000 inspections and placed over 10,000 vehicles and 3,000 drivers out of service during the same event.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) also issued a temporary medical certificate exemption effective April 11 through October 11, 2026, allowing CDL and CLP holders to rely on paper copies of their medical examiner's certificate for up to 60 days after issuance. This accommodation reduces administrative friction for drivers caught between digital recordkeeping transitions.

Well-prepared fleets that run thorough pre-blitz driver audits and vehicle checks minimize service disruptions and protect on-time delivery commitments for shipper customers.
