The Georgia Department of Public Safety has released final traffic statistics for the 2026 Labor Day holiday travel period, which began Friday and ended at midnight Monday.
State agencies recorded 22 crashes involving commercial motor vehicles during the four day window. Across all vehicle types, law enforcement logged 352 crashes statewide. Four people were killed and 139 were injured.
Impaired driving accounted for a large share of enforcement activity. Officers made 364 arrests for driving under the influence, and 216 of those arrests, roughly 59 percent of the total, occurred within the first 24 hours of the reporting period. Twenty-four of the 352 crashes involved a driver under the influence.
Officers also issued 1,183 citations for seat belt violations and 870 citations for distracted driving. The figures were compiled from law enforcement agencies throughout Georgia and cover both state and local jurisdictions.
Georgia carries heavy commercial traffic on Interstate 75, Interstate 85, Interstate 20 and Interstate 16, and holiday periods place passenger vehicles and freight equipment on the same corridors in unusually high volume. The department reports the commercial vehicle crash total at the state level, so the figure reflects statewide activity rather than any single county.
The Labor Day period is one of several holiday windows for which the Georgia Department of Public Safety publishes consolidated crash and citation counts. The agency compiles the totals after the holiday reporting period closes and releases them as final numbers.
